GODFREY - Monday night's Wabash Valley College men's basketball game at Lewis & Clark was cancelled when no officials showed up to work the game.
The Warriors waited until 30 minutes after the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start as Lewis & Clark officials tried to come up with some officials. After nothing could be arranged, head coach Dan Sparks packed his Warriors up to make the three-hour return trip home.
According to reports, the same thing happened one week earlier, also at Lewis & Clark, when no referees made the game against Mineral Area College.
The Lady Warriors were not scheduled on Monday night.
Lake Land comes to Spencer Sports Center for a GRAC doubleheader on Wednesday night. The women's game goes first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's affair at 7:30 p.m.
In Great Rivers Athletic Conference play on Monday night, Lake Land swept past Olney Central in league play at Olney.
The women's victory there means there is now a three-way tie for the spot in the GRAC race: Lake Land, Wabash Valley, and Kaskaskia are all 5-1 in the league.
Lake Land's men knocked off the Blue Knights, 80-67, solidifying their hold on first place in the GRAC race.
The Lakers will bring a perfect 6-0 league mark to Spencer on Wednesday night.
Saturday night, the Warriors head for Robinson and a game against IECC District 529 sister school Lincoln Trail.
After Wednesday, the next home game will be on Saturday, Jan. 30 agasinst Shawnee, which is not in the league but is in Region 24.
There are seven home games remaining for the Warriors this season.
Vincennes University, ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, remained undefeated at 19-0 with a 73-69 win over Southwestern Illinois, in Belleville.
