After what started off as an exciting night at Wabash Valley due to our Lady Warrior soccer team using a header to win their game 3-2, our Lady Warrior volleyball team wanted to finish the night off with a win on September 25th. It took five sets, but the Lady Warriors knocked off the Lake Land Lady Lakers in five sets.
Wabash won the match 3-2. The Lady Warriors fell in the first set, 25-16. Wabash came back to take sets two and three by scores of 25-17 and 25-21. Set four went to the Lady Lakers, 25-17. In a crucial fifth set, the Lady Warriors came out on top 15-13.
Wabash Valley finished the match with 55 kills, while Cristina Felts led the Lady Warriors with 18 kills. The team finished with 49 assists, with Ayiana Nieves leading the way with 24 and Alyssa Wilke finishing with 22. In the blocks department, WVC totaled 12 as a team, but was led by Alani Duncan with 4. She also had 2 of the 4 assisted blocks for the Lady Warriors. Sophie Spanier led WVC with 23 digs and 3 aces. The Lady Warriors finished with 68 digs and 7 aces.
Coach Refenes had this to say after the big win.
"I knew it was going to be a battle. Watching Lake Land, they have great ball control, and physical attackers in a lot of different positions. I felt like we started out slow and got hot in the second set. It was great to see us look confident in our abilities as a team. The setters did a great job in distributing the ball and we had people contributing throughout the match. Our serve and defense is really coming along."
The Lady Warriors are on the road Friday at Bresica.
